Alzheimer’s & Dementia Program The Alzheimer’s and dementia programs at Woodcrest give families peace of mind in knowing that their loved one is being well cared for in an ideal, caring and safe setting. We offer specialized care for residents with Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia. Our restraint-free environment is safe and secure. A wanderers’ alarm system ensures that residents are safe, while at the same time providing them with a greater degree of mobility and independence. Comprehensive Care Planning Upon admission, each resident is evaluated by an interdisciplinary team which develops an individualized care plan. The patient and loved ones participate in the plan. Through speech, occupational, physical therapies and specially designed activities, our team helps residents communicate and accomplish daily activities such as grooming, dressing, and eating. Activities geared for our Alzheimer’s Residents We work with the resident and family to identify significant events, people, and places that are unique to each resident, and to decorate his or her room with familiar pictures and small items from home. Recreational opportunities, such as gardening and crafts, are planned to help facilitate recognition and communication. Adaptive devices and finger foods are provided to facilitate self-feeding. Our staff is trained with frequent in-service seminars on issues surrounding the care needs of individuals with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia. Through years of combined experience, our Woodcrest staff members focus on what residents can do, instead of what they cannot do. We provide the most up-to-date treatments and therapies, intervene creatively when challenges arise, and most of all, we are here to offer support and assistance to our patients and their families.
